Delle Donne out of play to repair thumb injury

Former Delaware basketball star Elena Delle Donne will undergo surgery today to repair an injury to her right thumb.

A forward for the WNBA’s Chicago Sky, Delle Donne suffered the injury in a game against the Washington Mystics on Sept. 7.

There is no timetable for Delle Donne’s return. Last year’s league MVP, she was averaging 21.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.

Field hockey

Red Lion Christian 1, St. Thomas More 0: The Lions tallied the game’s only goal in the second half to pick up the victory.

Holly Grove Christian 7, Delmarva Christian 0: McKenzie Waide made 20 saves for the Royals in the loss on Monday.

Holly Grove finished with advantages of 28-3 in shots and 13-1 in corners.

Boys’ soccer

Holly Grove Christian 5, Delmarva Christian 1: Ben Little netted the lone goal for the Royals in their loss.

Holly Grove scored two goals in the first half and three in the second.

Senior Olympics

Pickleball standout in Georgetown: Delaware Senior Olympics and Sports At The Beach are bringing Pickleball player Sarah Ansboury to Georgetown.

Ansboury, the number one Pickleball pro in the U,S., will be in Georgetown Sept. 30-Oct. 2.
