Harrington Post 7 tops Smyrna Post 14 4-1 in American Legion baseball

Ryan Bishop pitched a six-hitter to earn the win as Harrington Post 7 downed Smyrna Post 14, 4-1, in American Legion baseball on Wednesday morning.

Bishop blanked Smyrna (2-4) for six innings, allowing only three singles before Brendan Davis homered in the seventh. After Mike Carrow doubled and Cole Garey singled, reliever Bryan Bullock came in and recorded the final three outs.

Connor Megginson (2 RBI, 1 run) went 3-for-3 with a triple and double for Harrington (2-1) while Blaine Hansen was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Harrington led 3-0 after scoring twice in the second.

Davis was Smyrna’s starting pitcher, striking out four and stranding eight runners on base in five innings.

Smyrna Post-14 5, Fox Post-2 4: Smyrna edged Post 2 in a matchup of Kent County squads on Tuesday night.

College softball

Another award for Burton: Caesar Rodney High grad Rosa’Lynn Burton was named to the Fastpitch News NCAA DII All-American second team.

It is the second All-American team that featured Burton, a sophomore outfielder for Wilmington University.

Burton led the Wildcats and finished second in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference with a .470 batting average. Burton led the CACC with 87 hits, 56 runs, and 42 stolen bases while finishing second in the league with seven triples, and a .527 on-base percentage.
