Hens picked to finish fifth in CAA

BALTIMORE, Md. – A year after returning to the NCAA FBS Division I playoffs for the first time since 2010, the Delaware football team was picked to finish fifth in the 12-team CAA this season.

James Madison was the favorite to win the Colonial Athletic Association this fall followed by Towson, Maine, Elon and Delaware at the poll announced during CAA Media Day in Baltimore on Tuesday morning.

The Blue Hens put two players on the preseason All-CAA team – offensive lineman Mario Farinella and punter Nick Pritchard. Towson quarterback Tom Flacco was the league’s preseason Offensive Player of the Year while Richmond defensive lineman earned the award on defense.

Also named to the preseason all-CAA team was Towson receiver Shane Leatherbury, the former Delmar High standout.

The Hens, under third-year coach Danny Rocco, open the season on Aug. 29 by hosting Delaware State at 7 p.m.
