Jessica Bergold captures the Week 2 Delaware State News Athlete of the Week award.

Smyrna High’s Jessica Bergold has been voted by readers as the Delaware State News Athlete of the Week for her performance on the field last week.

The senior forward scored a hat trick (three goals) with one assist in Smyrna’s 8-1 season-opening win over Appoquinimink High Sept. 10.

She followed it up with one goal and two assists in the Eagles’ 4-2 win over Middletown High two days later.

Through the team’s first three games, Bergold leads the Eagles (3-0) in scoring with five goals and three assists.

Milford High’s Jabraih Luke (football), Lake Forest High’s Elle Wood (field hockey) and Sussex Tech High’s Patrick Short (soccer) also received votes.
