Local roundup: Camden-Wyoming tops M.O.T.-Red 12-8 to win Pat Knight tournament

Camden-Wyoming downed M.O,T.-Red, 12-8, on Friday night to win the title in the Pat Knight baseball tournament.

Camden-Wyoming finished 4-1 in the double-elimination tourney, scoring 10 runs or more in four of its five games.

M.O.T.-Red went 4-2 after having a four-game winning streak snapped.

On Thursday night, M.O.T.-Red topped C-W, 4-3, to force the second game for the title.

Winning pitcher Cole Simpson struck out seven and didn’t allow an earned run in four innings. Tim Whichard then pitched two scoreless innings to close out the victory.

Nate VanBerkom drove in a pair of runs for M.O.T.-Red while Brett Vitsorek had the game-winning RBI.

For Camden-Wyoming, Ron Berry and Darius Jacks had hits and scored runs in the loss with Evan Wadhams throwing three 2/3 innings without allowing an earned run and striking out four.

Senior League

Felton-Harrington 6, Camden-Wyoming 5: Felton-Harrington edged Camden-Wyoming on Friday night to reach the District I winners’ bracket finals.

Felton-Harrington will play again on Sunday at 8:30 p.m. at Camden-Wyoming.

J.J. Marshall went 4-for-4 and also pitched shutout relief to close out the contest for Felton-Harrington (1-0) while Game Martin went 3-for-4 and scored a run.

David Dill had four hits and scored three runs for host Camden-Wyoming (1-1), which faces Milford today at 6 p.m.

Camden-Wyoming 13, M.O.T. 3: In a game played Thursday night, Camden-Wyoming opened with a win as pitcher David Dill allowed only three with 10 strikeouts in four innings.

Dill also went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and two RBI and four runs scored. Josh Harvey, Wes Keeler (2-for-2) and Braden Bushweller (2-for-2) all added two RBI.

Deak Deakins Tournament

Smyrna-Clayton-Red 13, Felton-Harrington 1: Smyrna-Clayton-Red won its tournament opener on Friday,

Tyler Stephens (3 RBI), Kaden Nicholson (2 hits, 2 RBI) and Patrick Blisard (2 hits, 2 RBI) all paced SC-Red, which takes on M.O.T.-Blue today at 1:30 p.m. at Harrington.

Deak Deakins tournament

Camden-Wyoming-Gold 13, Milford 1: CW-Gold collected 18 hits in winning its tourney opener on Friday night.

Aidan Schmidt and Quade Cummings both went 2-for-2 with three RBI for CW-Gold, which faces CW-Blue today at 4 p.m. at Harrington.

Ian Coker, Quade Cummings, Aidan Schmidt, Colton Gilbert, Sebastian Santa, Thiago Elias and Jin Ha Kim also had multiple hits for CW-Gold.

For Milford, Jaren Sterling (1 run) and Cooper Brannan (1 RBI) both had hits.

Softball

Lynn Deakins Tournament

Felton-Harrington 16, Marydel-Hartly 15: Felton-Harrington rallied from an eight-run deficit to win its tourney opener.

Winning pitcher Anave Arendall, who struck out six, and Forrest Teichmann both had two hits with three runs scored while Vanessa Cannon scored the game-winning run.
