Local roundup: Cape Henlopen tops Worcester Prep 3-1 in nonconference soccer

Cape Henlopen High netted the game’s first three goals before picking up a 3-1 victory over Worcester Prep, Md. in non-conference boys’ soccer on Monday.

Thomas Copeland and Jair Mancilla both scored in the first eight minutes before Nathan Loucks tallied a goal in the 42nd minute.

Goalies Alan Marin-Quiroz and Forest Dotterer combined to make three saves for the Vikings (2-1), who finished with advantages of 11-4 in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks.

Delmar 3, Holly Grove Christian 2: The Wildcats scored in overtime to earn the victory.

The game had been tied 2-2 since the first half.

Volleyball

Dover 3, Lake Forest 0: The Senators downed the Spartans by scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-23.

College football

Hornets’ Bethea honored: Delaware State freshman quarterback Tylik Bethea was honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for his performance in the Hornets’ 58-12 victory over Lincoln on Saturday.

Bethea was named the MEAC Rookie of the Week after completing 16-of-28 passes for 181 yards and two touchdowns in the contest.

Making his first collegiate start, Bethea led Delaware State to touchdowns on each of the Hornets’ first four possessions in the game. For the season, he has completed 26-of-46 passes for 318 yards (long 36) and three touchdowns without an interception.

Bethea ranks fourth in the league in passing average (159.0 ypg) and passing efficiency (136.1 rating); fifth in total offense (152.0 ypg) and tied for third in touchdown passes.

The Hornets return to action Saturday by hosting Howard for homecoming, which also marks the MEAC opener for each team. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Alumni Stadium.
