Local roundup: CR falls to Hudson Catholic (NJ) at Slam Dunk

The Caesar Rodney High boys’ basketball team dropped its second game at the Slam Dunk to the Beach tournament hosted by Cape Henlopen High on Friday.

The Riders fell to Hudson Catholic of New Jersey 55-46 on the second day of the three-day invitational. CR had beaten instate foe Salesianum in overtime on Thursday.

Caesar Rodney is now 6-2 on the season.

Dover 85, Cesar Chavez, D.C. 62: Elijah Allen and Eden Davis each broke the 20-point mark in the Senators’ victory at the Governor’s Challenge in Salisbury, Md.

Allen was the game’s top scorer with 26 points and Davis followed with 21. Jyheim Spencer scored eight points and grabbed 16 rebounds for Dover.

The Senators remained unbeaten and improved to 6-0.

Polytech 60, Colonel Richardson, Md. 45: Three Panthers scored in double figures as Polytech won at the Governor’s Challenge.

Brandin Obidike led the way with 15 points while Isaac Jones added 14 and Cameron Frazier had 11.

It was the first win of the year for Polytech who moved to 1-6.

Olympic, N.C. 81, Smyrna 46: The Eagles lost in their second game of the Governor’s Challenge.

Sussex Tech 88, North Caroline, Md. 57: The Ravens earned the championship in their bracket of the Gov-ernor’s Challenge.

Delmarva Christian 75, Freire Charter 58: Christopher Vonhof’s 16 points led the Royals as they improved their season record to 9-1.

Andrew Workman and Wyatt Kwiatkowski each netted 15 points.

Girls’ basketball

St. Joseph’s N.Y. 45, Caesar Rodney 32: The Riders fell in the final of the New Castle Health Insurance Cup of the Diamond State Classic at St. Elizabeth.

Sussex Tech 47, James M. Bennett, Md. 35: Airelle Parker’s 14 points lifted the Ravens to a win at the Gov-ernor’s Challenge.

Sierra Troyey chipped in 11 points for Sussex Tech (4-2).

Polytech 54, Concord 41: The Panthers earned the victory in a consolation matchup of the Pat Borowski Classic at Lake Forest High.

Lake Forest 52, Milford 6: The Pat Borowski Classic hosts won their consolation contest on Friday.

Women’s basketball

Delaware 48, St. Joseph 39: Freshman Jasmine Dickey led the Hens to a nonconference win with 10 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double.

It was just the second time Delaware has beaten the Hawks in program history.

Makeda Nicholas added eight points and 10 rebounds. Abby Gonzales also scored eight points as Delaware moved to 5-7.
