Local roundup: Eagles win final two sets to edge Riders 3-2 in volleyball

Smyrna High won the final two sets to rally for a 3-2 victory over Caesar Rodney High on Thursday night in a Henlopen Conference Northern Division volleyball matchup.

The Eagles trailed 2-1 before forcing a fifth set with a 25-17 result in the fourth. They then won the decisive set 15-7.

Smyrna took the first set 25-22 but Caesar Rodney won the next two 25-19 and 25-21.

Cape Henlopen 3, Polytech 1: Kathryn Knarr paced the Vikings in Henlopen North action with 10 kills.

Madison Mahoney added nine kills while Abigail Derrickson provided 23 assists. Set scores were 25-12, 25-11, 28-30 and 25-10.

Dover 3, Milford 0: The Senators captured the Henlopen North contest 25-11, 25-13, 25-8.

Sussex Central 3, Sussex Tech 0: Brenya Reid’s 16 kills lifted the Golden Knights to a Henlopen North victory 25-13, 15-17, 25-19.

Indian River 3, ECHS@DSU 0: The Indians won in straight sets 25-12, 25-3, 25-8.

Boys’ soccer

Milford 3, Lake Forest 0: Three different players scored for the Buccaneers to snap a five-game losing streak.

Samuel Dominguez got the Buccaneers (7-5) on the board first before Brandon Zelaya Hernandez added another in the first half. Aaron Sollie rounded out the scoring with a second half goal.

Delmar 1, Smyrna 0: Seth Hitch scored the game’s lone goal in the 62nd minute off an assist from Ky’Juan Turner.

Nathan White’s 11 saves gave Delmar the shutout.

Indian River 1, Sussex Central 0: Jared Córdoba’s overtime goal from a Eddie Mochiam assist was the difference for the Indians.

Sussex Academy 1, Cape Henlopen 0: Adison Browne netted an unassisted goal in the 49th minute to give the Seahawks the win.

Caesar Rodney 8, Seaford 0: Lyod Coutilien netted three goals and one assist in the Rider victory.

Spencer Ott added two goals while Christian Tisdale, Sebastian Stubbolo and Jackson Spino scored one goal apiece.

Field hockey

Indian River 2, Lake Forest 0: Avery Congleton and Rylie Cordrey each scored a goal in the first half as the Indians improved to 12-1 overall.

Allyson Clark recorded the shutout with six saves.

Laurel 9, Delmarva Christian 0: Erin Carey had a hat trick while Emily Bell, Peyton Givans and Carlie Venables each netted a pair of goals as the Bulldogs earned the victory.

Sussex Academy 5, Seaford 0: All of the Seahawks goals came in the second half, paced by three goals from Marguerite Mitchell.

Savannah Sistrunk and Addy Leonhartt also had a goal apiece.

Delmar 10, Woodbridge 0: Mya Kemp scored twice and nine different Wildcats had at least one goal.

Maci Bradford and Logan Walls each provided a goal and an assist.

Sussex Central 1, Milford 0: A Golden Knight goal in the first half was the difference in the Henlopen North contest.
