Local roundup: Fox Post 2 rallies to edge Harrington Post 7 in Legion baseball

Fox Post 2 scored the final five runs of the contest to rally for a 6-5 victory over Harrington Post 7 in American Legion baseball on Thursday night.

Dylan Jacobs walked, stole second base and scored the winning run on a throwing error in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Post 2 a walk-off victory in its season opener.

Miguel Rivera went 4-for-4 and scored twice while Trey Howard added an RBI double for Post 2. Reliever Andrew Carney pitched three shutout innings to earn the win.

Mason Haggerty doubled for Harrington with pitcher Robbie Baxley allowing only one run in the first three innings.

Smyrna Post-14 7, Nanticoke Post-6 Patriots 4: Smyrna picked up the victory to improve to 1-1 in a game played on Thursday night.


Dover offering NASCAR wagering: Dover Downs Hotel & Casino is now offering wagering on NASCAR races among the full sports betting that became available in the state this week.

Gamblers can place wagers on a wide variety of sports, including auto racing, baseball, basketball, boxing/MMA, football, hockey and soccer.

There are multiple ways to bet on all Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series events, including winner-of-the-race plays, proposition wagers and futures wagering.

Typically, 27 drivers are listed individually, along with a “field” (all others) option.

Proposition wager are also available following each week’s practice and qualifying sessions, pitting two drivers against each other in a head-to-head wager. The driver with the better finish in the race wins the match-up.

In addition, wagering on NASCAR Stage winners will be available for Dover International Speedway races.

NASCAR Xfinity Series lines are also offered. NASCAR Camping World Truck Series lines will be available when the series returns to Dover International Speedway in May, 2019.

Dover International Speedway’s next NASCAR tripleheader weekend on Oct. 5-7 includes the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race on Friday, Oct. 5, the NASCAR Xfinity Series playoff race on Saturday, Oct. 6, and the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series playoff race on Sunday, Oct. 7. The Monster Mile will be the first NASCAR track where fans will be able to wager on races when they arrive at the facility.

Hens hire new women’s coach: Former assistant Kelly Anderson has been hired as the University of Delaware women’s tennis program, the school announced this week.

Anderson served under longtime head coach Laura Travis this past season. She was a part of 12 wins this past spring, which tied for the most over the past seven seasons.

Prior to last season at Delaware, Anderson served as the head coach at Stetson for the 2015-2016 season, guiding the Hatters to a top-three finish in the Atlantic Sun.

In addition to her time at Stetson, Anderson spent two seasons as both an assistant and the interim head coach at South Florida, where she saw the Bulls reach as high as #33 in the national rankings and take home the 2014 American Athletic Conference Championship.

Her stops also included time at the University of Illinois and at Campbellsville University, where she was a part of the 2012 NCCAA national championship team.
