Local roundup: Fox Post 2 shuts out Nanticoke Post 6 in American Legion baseball

Tommy Pomatto allowed just one hit in five shutout innings as Fox Post 2 blanked the Nanticoke Post 6 Patriots, 12-0 in American Legion baseball on Thursday evening.

Post 2 broke the game open by scoring four runs in both the third and fourth innings.

Kyle Comegys (3 runs) and Michael Carrington (1 run) had two hits apiece for Post 2 while Alec Rodriguez added a pair of RBI.
Noah Covington had the lone hit for the Patriots.

On Wednesday, Fox Post 2 edged Canal Post 25, 2-1.

Canal Post-25 6, Harrington Post-7 6: Canal scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to rally for the victory on Thursday night.

Post 25 starting pitcher Jarrett Wallace limited Harrington to three hits and one earned run in four innings before reliever Aidan Riley threw three shutout innings.

Mike Robertson, Wade Brooks and Chris Chandler combined to pitch a three-hitter for Harrington.

College baseball

Hens’ Sullivan earns another award: Delaware freshman pitcher Billy Sullivan was named to the Perfect Game/Rawlings Freshman All-American second team the publication announced Thursday.

Sullivan struck out 95 batters in 72.2 innings. The St. Mark’s High grad had a record of 7-3 with an ERA of 2.97, setting a UD freshman program record for strikeouts.

His 95 strikeouts were also the second-most by a freshman in the country, trailing just Drey Jameson of Ball State who recorded 97 strikeouts. The rookie’s 11.77 strikeouts per nine innings was the 30th best mark nationally.

UD’s Baker honored: Delaware junior outfielder Kyle Baker was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region first team.

Baker (Wilmington Charter) hit a team-best .354 during the 2018 season, hitting a pair of home runs and driving 39 runs. The Delaware native recorded a team-best 18 extra-base hits including five triples and 11 doubles. He stole nine bases and his .397 on-base percentage was the second-best mark on the team.

College football

Delaware pair earn preseason honors: After both earning All-CAA first-team accolades last fall, linebacker Troy Reeder and safety Nasir Adderley both earned second-team Preseason All-American honors from HERO Sports.

Reeder, a two-time captain, led the team with 89 stops rank in the top-10 in the CAA. He recorded 10 or more tackles three times in 2017 and had a career-high 17 stops in a road win at Maine late in the season. He also had seven tackles for loss and was in on two sacks.

Adderley led a defensive secondary that ranking No. 2 in the league in passing efficiency defense and No. 3 in pass defense.
He was the team’s second leading tackler with 78 stops, including a team-high 42 solo tackles, and ranked No. 2 in the CAA with five interceptions. He had 10 or more tackles three times, including a career-high 14 vs. Maine.
