Local roundup: Fox scores game-winner as Polytech nips Cape in girls soccer

Jenna Fox’ goal in the 75th minute gave Polytech High a 3-2 victory over Cape Henlopen in Henlopen Northern Division girls’ soccer on Monday.

In a contest in which all five goals were scored in the second half, the Vikings knotted the score at 2-2 on Claire Rasin’s goal in the 60th minute. Lily Ashby also scored for Cape while Lucy Siranides made six saves.

Polytech built a 2-0 advantage when Paxton McGinnity and Emma Moorman scored five minutes apart. Alyssa-Lynn Brown made four saves and Sarah Fox had a pair of assists for Polytech, which held advantages of 9-6 in shots and 5-4 in corner kicks.

The loss for the Vikings (3-2 North, 9-3 overall) leaves Caesar Rodney (4-0) in control of first place in the North.

St. Mark’s 6, Laurel 3: The Spartans took a 3-0 halftime lead before topping the Bulldogs.

Destine’ Snead made 12 saves for Laurel with Aubrey Pete scoring a goal.

Boys’ lacrosse

Milford 22, Delmar 13: With the Henlopen South contest tied 8-8 at halftime, the Buccaneers out-scored the Wildcats, 9-2, in the third quarter to take control.

Conor Christie (4 assists) and Jonathan Gaglione (3 assists) both tallied five goals for Milford with Alex Herka (2 assists) adding four. Ryan Frost made 13 saves.

Sussex Tech 10, Woodbridge 4: The Ravens used a 5-1 third-quarter run to overcome a 3-2 deficit.

Noah Wharton had a game-high three goals for Sussex Tech with Gian Singh (1 assist) and Chase Snyder adding two apiece. Matthew McLaughlin made 11 saves as the Ravens out-shot the Raiders, 38-19.

Lane Hill and Jacob Webb had two goals each for Woodbridge, which got five saves from Blake Lindgren.

Girls’ lacrosse

Caesar Rodney 13, Mt. Pleasant 1: The Riders netted 11 unanswered first half goals before posting the win.

Nine players scored goals for CR with Jessica Crawford tallying three and Georgia Weiner adding two. Sarah Gates made a pair of saves.

Sussex Academy 15, Salisbury School, Md. 6: Annabella Guckes (1 assist) and Isabella Kwan netted four goals apiece to pace the Seahawks.

Molly Martiner had three goals with Kelsey Smith and Clara Elliott both adding two goals and an assist. Peyton Hagy made four saves.

Archmere 14, Polytech 5: The Auks out-scored the Panthers, 6-1, in the second half to cap off the win.

Mackenzie Estrada tallied two goals and an assist for Polytech, which got seven saves from Carleigh Knotts.

Padua 17, Dover 5: The Pandas out-scored the Senators, 9-1, in the second half to put away the win.

Madison Small scored two goals for Dover with Regan Torbert making 12 saves. Padua out-shot the Senators, 33-19.

Softball

Polytech 3, Sussex Tech 0: Taylor Wroten pitched a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts as the Ravens won in extra innings.

Kylie Kruger had two of Sussex Tech’s six hits.

Kaite Burawski struck out 14 for the Panthers with Kelsie Burawski adding a pair of hits.

Caravel 5, Lake Forest 1: Grace Aguilar had both Spartans’ hits, including a double, in the loss.

Middletown 6, Milford 5: The Cavaliers rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh to pull out the victory on Paige Akers’ walk-off RBI single.

Macey Myers and Morgan Petty both had multiple hits, including homeruns, for the Buccaneers.

Sussex Academy 14, Salisbury Christian, Md. 0: The Seahawks blanked Salisbury Christian for the victory.

Baseball

Delmar 8, Wicomico, Md. 1: Andrew Calloway pitched five no-hit innings to earn the win for the Wildcats.

Luke Waters had a triple and double for Delmar, which out-hit Wicomico, 11-3.

Sussex Tech 10, Newark 0: Tyler Heder, Grant Allen and Luke Shockley combined to pitch a six-inning two-hitter for the Ravens.

Ethan Ward (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs), Jason Shockley (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Brayden Graham (2 RBI) paced Sussex Tech’s 10-hit attack.

Delmarva Christian 15, Holly Grove Christian, Md. 4: The Royals broke the game open with eight runs in the third.

Joseph Jones had a pair of doubles with Connor Lewis, Michael Briggs and Hunter DiFava also adding multiple hits.

Boys’ volleyball

Indian River 3, Delmarva Christian 0: The Indians raised their record to 9-0 with a 25-17, 25-16, 25-23 victory.

Pacing IR were Michael Barnes (14 kills, 3 aces, 14 digs), Mitchell McGee (9 kills), Carson Barnes (5 kills, 5 blocks, 11 digs) and Alexander Canseco Castro (26 assists).
