Local roundup: Gourdine leads Lake Forest girls past Indian River 47-20

Jada Gourdine’s 13 points helped Lake Forest High earn a 47-20 victory over Indian River High in a Henlopen Conference Southern Division girls’ basketball contest on Thursday afternoon.

Gourdine was the only player in double figures on either team. Shayla Wynder and Gabrielle Almonte added eight points apiece for the Spartans.

Sussex Central 55, Caesar Rodney 49: Raeonna Stratton scored 20 points to lead the Golden Knights in the Henlopen North matchup.

Delmar 36, Sussex Academy 18: Le’Zhane Holmes netted 10 points and A’Sauna Hadley followed with seven as the Wildcats recorded their fourth victory in a row.

Boys’ basketball

Lake Forest 57, Indian River 44: Kaheim Kimbrough-Roach’s 20 points lifted the Spartans over Indian River in a Henlopen South matchup.
Jaysem Vazquez scored 18 points for Lake Forest while Jene Sample netted 15. Jamier Felton scored 17 points to lead Indian River.

Red Lion Christian 59, St. Thomas More 36: Joshua Hayward scored 13 points while Omari Burris added 10 but the Ravens fell to Red Lion Christian on Thursday.

Delmar 60, Sussex Academy 39: Trevor Gibson led the Wildcats with 13 points and Vershawn Spence contributed 10 points in Delmar’s win.

Wrestling

Dover 64, St. Andrew’s 0: The Senators recorded five pins in the nonconference victory and won every match that was contested.

Jay-Roan Lopez (126 pounds), Richard Fonticiella (138), David Moore (152), Nasir Anderson (160) and Gabe Evans (170) earned the pins for Dover.

Women’s basketball

Wesley 86, Valley Forge 35: Monshea Newsome-Murray finished just short of a triple-double in Wesley’s victory on Thursday.

Newsome-Murray, a Seaford High product, scored 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds and recorded eight assists. Her 14 points led the Wolverines.

Shelby Johnson earned a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Peterson had 11 points while Jameshia Baker added 10.
