Local Roundup: Hen women drop CAA opener, Lake Forest boys win

The University of Delaware women’s basketball team opened the Colonial Athletic Association portion of its schedule Friday afternoon with a 74-53 loss to Drexel at the Daskalakis Athletic Center.

Junior Nicole Enabosi, who was held without a double-double for the first time in nine games, guided all scorers with 18 points to go along with eight rebounds in 40 minutes of action.

Sophomore Samone DeFreese added 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists of her own.

Delaware (7-5, 0-1 CAA) was hindered by 20 turnovers while shooting just 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from behind the 3-point arc.

The Dragons (9-4, 1-0 CAA), who led by as much as 23 in the third quarter, saw three players with double figure scoring efforts. Kelsi Lidge posted 16 points and five steals for Drexel while Bailey Greenberg notched 14 points and Aubree Brown tallied 10.

“Drexel set the tone early and was very aggressive and active defensively,” said UD coach Natasha Adair. “We didn’t play Delaware basketball today. We will become a better team because of this and we have a lot of basketball left to play. There were different levels to this game and against an opponent like Drexel, the room for error is very small. This was a tough one for sure.”
