Local roundup: Indian River rallies for 3-1 soccer victory over Delcastle

Indian River High netted the final three goals of the game in posting a 3-1 victory over Delcastle in boys’ soccer on Monday afternoon.

The Indians improved to 11-2-1 with one regular-season game remaining.

Willem Lambertson (1 assist), Omar Baker and Jordan Illian all scored for IR with the last two goals coming in the 64th and 71st minutes.

Woodbridge 2, McKean 0: The Blue Raiders netted a pair of first-half goals in the victory.

The Highlanders finished with advantages of 18-12 in shots and 9-4 in corner kicks.

Wilmington Charter 3, Sussex Central 1: Abner Bartolon-Berduo netted the lone goal for the Golden Knights in the non-conference loss.

Angel Castellanos-Ventura made six saves for Central. The Force held advantages of 12-6 in shots and 8-3 in corner kicks.

College volleyball

DSU’s Gortz honored: Delaware State freshman setter Freja Gortz has been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference as the Setter of the Week.

She tallied 82 assists (13.7 per set), 20 digs and two service aces in 3-0 DSU victories over Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M last weekend.

A native of Sonderborg, Denmark, Gortz had 46 assists (15.3 p/s) and seven digs in the Florida A&M contest. The assist total was the most in a three-set match in recorded team history. The previous high was 43.

Gortz is the fifth Hornet to receive player of the week honors by the MEAC this season.
