Local roundup: Lake Forest rallies in second quarter, defeats Delmar 48-29

Lake Forest High shook off a slow start to down Delmar, 48-29, in Henlopen Southern Division boys’ basketball on Tuesday night.

Delmar led 13-6 after the first quarter but the Spartans (9-1 South, 10-2 overall) out-scored the Wildcats, 21-2, in the second quarter to take control.

Kaheim Kimbrough-Roach netted 24 points to pace Lake Forest, hitting nine of the Spartans’ 18 total field goals. Lake has won five games in a row.

Jeremiah Lumpkin-Beale (11) and Jerome Mitchell (10) combined to score 21 of Delmar’s 29 points.

Smyrna 66, Sussex Central 47: The Eagles used a 32-point third quarter to overcome a five-point halftime deficit.

Nahshon Sylvester had 22 points, including four three-pointers, for Smyrna with Izaiah Credle (16) and Ron Jackson (11) also leading the way.

The Golden Knights got 15 points from Isaac Petit and 11 from Amir Mollock.

Sussex Tech 72, Polytech 47: The Ravens jumped out to a 25-11 first-quarter lead en route to the North victory.

ECHS@DSU 60, McKean 45: The Hornets improved to 6-6 with their second win in a row.

Delmarva Christian 60, Gunston, Md. 13: Seth Stevens (14 points), Christopher Vonhof (13) and Andrew Workman (11) all scored in double figures for the Royals (10-1).

Girls’ basketball

Lake Forest 60, Delmar 44: Grace Aguilar scored 21 points and Jada Gourdine added 20 as the Spartans improved to 10-2.

Lake Forest, which also got 10 points from Elle Wood, built a 41-24 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Le’Zhane Holmes scored a team-high 18 points for Delmar with Jamiah Jackson netting 12.

Sussex Tech 60, Polytech 46: The Ravens out-scored the Panthers, 36-22, in the second half to break away from a halftime tie.

Airelle Parker (16), Janiya Stevens (15), Mi’Cah Shelton (12) and Sierra Toyer (12) all led the Ravens, who hit eight three-pointers. Parker and Shelton had three threes apiece.

Courtney Turner led the Panthers with 18 points while Jazmin Kellam had 12 and YaaYaa Afriyie scored 11.

Sussex Central 63, Smyrna 29: Raeonna Stratton tallied 21 points for the Golden Knight, who out-scored the Eagles, 17-4, in the second quarter to take control.

Brenya Reid (15) and Ambria Stratton (12) also reached double figures.

Jayla Smith had 14 points for Smyrna.

Woodbridge 62, Indian River 19: The Blue Raiders netted 23 unanswered points in the first quarter before improving to 12-0 with the South victory.

Woodbridge, which hit six three-pointers, was led by Sierra Smith (17) and Cha’Kya Johnson (14).

Sussex Academy 24, Milford 23: The Seahawks took an eight-point lead into the fourth quarter before edging the Buccaneers behind nine points from Annabella Guckes.

Milford got 11 points from Jeannellie Robles-Ortiz.

Red Lion Christian 27, ECHS@DSU 18: Red Lion downed the Hornets in a non-conference matchup.

Delmarva Christian 65, Gunston, Md. 8: Savannah Stewart netted 19 points for the Royals in the win.
