Local roundup: Polytech rallies for girls’ soccer victory

Polytech High netted all three of its goals in a six-minute span late in the contest to upend Sussex Tech, 3-2, in Henlopen North girls’ soccer on Thursday.

Jenna McDuff tied the contest in the 67th minute before adding the game-winner in the 70th minute. Paxton McGinnity started the comeback with a goal in the 64th minute.

Alyssa-Lynn Brown made six saves for Polytech (9-4), which has won four games in a row. The Panthers out-shot the Ravens, 8-7.

Angela Miltenberger (1 assist) and Hannah Murphy tallied first-half goals for Sussex Tech while Valencia Whealton made five saves.

Lake Forest 3, Delmar 1: Elle Wood netted a pair of goals in a five-minute span of the first half as the Spartans earned a South win.

Haydan Parker scored in the second half for Lake. Delmar held a 17-15 edge in shots but the Spartans had a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Kaleigh Layton scored for the Wildcats.

Smyrna 8, Sussex Central 1: Destiny Zapata scored the Eagles’ first three goals of the second half as they broke away from a 1-0 halftime lead.

Hannah Osborne (1 assist) and Skylar Campanicki added two goals apiece for Smyrna, which out-shot the Golden Knights, 34-8.

Kimberly Briceno-Tovar scored for Central.

Caesar Rodney 9, Dover 1: Macy Ramsey scored the Riders’ first three goals in the Henlopen North win.

Jessie Prillaman added two goals and an assist, including the 100th goal of her career. CR, which got five saves from Morgan                Desaulniers, out-shot the Senators, 30-6.

Ally Manifold scored for Dover with Campbell Gibson making 16 saves.

Indian River 8, Laurel 0: Anastasia Diakos and Avery Congleton both tallied two goals and an assist to lead the Indians.

Destine’ Snead made 15 saves for Laurel, which was out-shot, 31-2.

Sussex Academy 7, Seaford 0: Delaney Smith (1 assist) netted three first-half goals in a row to spark the Seahawks.

Reese D’entremont added a pair of second-half goals while Katherine Portillo had a goal and three assists.

Baseball

Polytech 6, Laurel 0: Austin Biddle pitched 6.1 innings as he and Dylan Gros combined on a three-hit shutout.

Gros and Brent Buckson both had triples for the Panthers, who scored all six of their runs in the fifth.

Dalton Perdue had a double for the Bulldogs.

Lake Forest 8, Smyrna 1: Wade Brooks pitched a two-hitter and allowed only a seventh-inning run for the Spartans.

Jaden Rivera and Byron Freeland both had two RBI for Lake, which broke open a scoreless game with four runs in the fifth.

Jeremy Netsch tossed a six-hitter and struck out four for the Eagles.

Sussex Tech 15, Delmar 1: The Ravens used an eight-run third to break open a 3-0 game and improve to 11-0 in conference,

Matt Warrington (2-for-2, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Jason Shockley (homer, 3 RBI), Jalen Snead (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 runs) and Bobby Locklear (1 run, 4 RBI) all led Sussex Tech. Noah Covington pitched a five-inning two-hitter with five strikeouts.

Luke Waters had both Delmar hits.

St. Andrews 9, Seaford 7: Kenneth Goodwin had a pair of hits, with a double, for the Blue Jays.

Delmarva Christian 11, Salisbury Christian, Md. 9: The Royals improved to 13-2 with their fifth straight victory.

Softball

Sussex Tech 13, Delmar 3: Kayla Booros went 3-for-3 with a homerun and five RBI as the Ravens snapped the Wildcats’ 13-game winning streak.

Sussex Tech also got homers from Corrin Farris (3 runs, 3 RBI), winning pitcher Taylor Wroten and Jakayla Sample while Sierra Livingston added two hits and three RBI.

Jordan Moore had two of Delmar’s four hits.

Smyrna 15, Lake Forest 5: Abigail Mace (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 runs) and Sara Miller (2 runs) both homered for the Eagles, which had 15 hits in the victory.

Zoe Wilcox (2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Laiken Zay (2 RBI) and Lexi Moore (2-for-3, 2 runs) also led Smyrna.

Jenna Troyer went 2-for-3 and scored twice while Adyson Stewart drove in a pair of runs for the Spartans.

Dover 3, Milford 2: The Senators scored the game’s first three runs before holding off the Buccaneers.

Lex Dowdy pitched a five-hitter with eight strikeouts and also hit a double. Ashlynn Davis had a pair of hits while Kayla Quick homered for Dover.

Julia Reed had three hits for Milford.

Polytech 5, Laurel 3: The Panthers won their third game in a row to improve to 10-6.

Appoquinimink 6, Cape Henlopen 3: Autumn Gentry’s two-run single sparked a three-run seventh that lifted the Jaguars.

The Vikings got a homer from Gracie Whisenhunt, and RBI from Kelsey Huling and Carlin Quinn.

Delmarva Christian 15, Salisbury Christian, Md. 0: The Royals evened their record at 8-8 with the win.

Boys’ lacrosse

Newark Charter 8, First State Military 7: The Bulldogs were edged by Newark Charter to fall to 6-6.

Boys’ volleyball

Delmarva Christian 3, St. Mark’s 0: The Royals raised their record to 6-5 with the 25-11, 25-22, 25-23 win.
