Local roundup: Rain hits American Legion tournament; Post 10 Generals win

Three of the four scheduled games in the opening round of the American Legion baseball state tournament were rained out on Saturday.
The Post 10 Generals downed DelVets, 17-2, in the only contest that was completed.

The other three other three first-round contests are slated to be played today at New Castle’s Wilson Field. Today’s schedule includes Nanticoke Post 6 vs. Middletown Post 25 at noon; Harrington Post 7 vs. Delaware Post 1 at 3 p.m.; and Fox Post 2 vs. Stahl Post at 6 p.m.

The eight-team, double-elimination tourney is scheduled to continue on Monday at Wilson Field.


Major League

Lower Sussex 7, Maryland 0: Delaware state champion Lower Sussex opened play in the Mid-Atlantic Regional with a shutout victory in Bristol, Conn. on Saturday.

Pitcher Camryn Ehlers struck out nine as Lower Sussex limited Maryland to just one hit. Jaya Shaub and Laniya Lewis had two hits apiece for Lower Sussex.
