Local roundup: Ravens defeat Gunston, stay unbeaten in girls basketball

Four St. Thomas More players scored in double figures as the Ravens stayed unbeaten with a 54-13 victory over Gunston, Md. in girls’ basketball on Monday afternoon.

Jessica Simmons netted a game-high 18 points while Marlena Gordon (12 points), Aniah Patterson (10) and Glennyce James (10) also led St. Thomas More (7-0).

The Ravens built a 28-9 halftime advantage.


Delmar 52, A.I. DuPont 24: The Wildcats evened their record at 1-1 with the tri-meet win.

Woodbridge 69, A.I. DuPont 4: The Raiders improved to 3-1 with the non-conference victory.

College basketball

Wesley’s Cameron earns another AEC honor: For the third time this season, Wesley College junior guard Brian Cameron was named the Atlantic East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.

For the third consecutive week, Cameron averaged 30 or more points per game. He shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30) from the field, went 6-for-10 from three-point range and 22-for-24 on free throws.

Cameron continues to lead the Atlantic East in scoring and has now entered the top five in Division III in points per game. He sits at fourth in the nation, averaging 25.6 points per game.

He ranks fifth in the Atlantic East in rebounding, pulling down 7.2 boards per contest.
