Local roundup: Rivera smacks two grand slams to key Fox Post 2 victory

Miguel Rivera hit two grand slams to lead Fox Post-2 to a 19-4 five-inning victory over Post-7 Harrington in an American Legion baseball contest on Wednesday night.

Rivera tallied nine RBI and scored four runs as Fox Post-2 recorded 14 hits. Brendan Hatch also hit a solo-homer for Fox Post-2 while Alec Rodriguez, Kyle Comegys, Matt Atkins and Trey Howard each had a multi-hit game.

Ethan Hurd doubled for Post-7 Harrington. Bryan Bullock and Eddie Joyce each had two hits.

Smyrna Post-14 2, Nanticoke Post-6 1: Andrew Unterriner pitched a complete game with six strikeouts and did not allow an earned run in Smyrna Post-14’s victory.

Mason Drummond hit a home run to pace Smyrna Post-14’s offense. Logan Unterriner also drove in a run while Cole Gary and Brendan Davis each had a hit.

Jake Rogers doubled to lead Nanticoke Post-6 and K-Ci Widdowson scored the lone run.

College football

Wesley finalizes 2018 schedule: The Wesley College regular season schedule is set.

The Wolverines open the 2018 slate with a three-game homestand, opening with a Friday night matchup on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. against nationally-ranked Delaware Valley Aggies. Prior to the game, the Wolverines will honor late head coach Mike Drass with a pre-game remembrance.

After a bye week, the Wolverines will open New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play with another Friday night game on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. against the College of New Jersey Lions and a game against the William Paterson Pioneers on Sat., Sept. 22 at 1 p.m.

The Wolverines will take on the Southern Virginia Knights on Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. for their first road contest of the 2018 season.

The nationally-ranked Frostburg St. Bobcats come to Drass Field at Scott D. Miller Stadium on Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. The game will be Family and Friends Day where the Wolverines honor the 2018 seniors.

Wesley will head north to New Jersey for a pair of games against Kean (Oct. 13) and Rowan (Oct. 20) before returning to Dover for Homecoming on Oct. 27 against the Montclair St. Redhawks. The Wesley athletic department will honor the Wesley Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2018 at halftime of the homecoming contest.

The 2018 regular season concludes with a two-game road swing. Wesley will take on Route 13 rival Salisbury on Nov. 3 at noon before wrapping up the regular season in Newport News, Va., taking on the Christopher Newport Captains on Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.
