Local roundup: Senator softball team continues best start in program history

Freshman Alexis Dowdy tossed her third shutout in a row as the Dover High softball team edged Polytech 1-0 in a Henlopen North contest on Thursday.

It continued the best start in school history for Dover, who improved to 6-0. The Senators have won their last two games by the score of 1-0.

Dover was held to just one hit but scratched out a run in the top of the sixth. Ashlynn Davis provided the lone hit for Dover. Dowdy scattered four hits across her seven innings in the circle.

Polytech pitcher Katie Burawski recorded 12 strikeouts to lead the Panthers.

Smyrna 7, Cape Henlopen 0: Payton Dixon pitched a one-hit shutout with nine strikeouts as the Eagles remained unbeaten at 6-0.

Olyvia Smith went 2-for-3 with a triple and one RBI. Dixon, Zoe Wilcox, Julia Thuer and Sara Miller also drove in a run for Smyrna.

Milford 14, Concord 4: C.J. Kohel and Macey Myers each doubled and tripled in the Buccaneer victory.

Morgan Petty had a 3-for-3 day at the plate for Milford. Bianca Salisbury pitched a six-hitter and was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Delmar 12, Delmarva Christian 1: Josie Hollamon’s grand slam paced the Wildcats over the Royals.

Madi Lemon and Angelina Arter had multi-hit games for Delmar.

Baseball

Milford 10, Lake Forest 2: Chad Reichold struck out six on the mound, homered at the plate and drove in three runs.

Shawn Saxon contributed a pair of hits and a pair of RBI. Tyler Noell doubled to lead the Spartans.

Cape Henlopen 13, Smyrna 3: Mason Fluharty homered for the Vikings to lead a five-run first inning.

Grant Evans doubled and tripled as he knocked in four runs. Luke Smailer had a pair of hits including a double for Cape Henlopen.

Conner Strauss had a double and a run scored and Layne Bell had two RBI for Smyrna.

Indian River 4, Seaford 2: The Indians plated three runs in the top of the third to rally from an early deficit.

Sussex Tech 12, Woodbridge 0: Ethan Ward had an RBI-double and Jalen Sneak an RBI-triple for the Ravens.

Tyler Heder pitched four innings of shutout ball with three strikeouts to pick up the win.

Delmarva Christian 3, Delmar 1: Riley Culver’s home run led the Royals to a road victory.

Girls’ soccer

Caesar Rodney 8, Sussex Central 0: Jessie Prillaman and Macy Ramsey each recorded a hat-trick in the Rider victory.

Polytech 6, Dover 0: Sarah Fox scored all three of her goals in the first half for the Panthers.

Paxton McGinnity netted a pair of goals and Jenna Fox also scored.

Cape Henlopen 1, Smyrna 0: Brooke Hollingsworth provided the lone goal in the second half as the Vikings earned the narrow win.

Lake Forest 8, Woodbridge 0: Elle Wood’s hat-trick led the Spartans to their third victory in a row.

Sierra Jester scored twice for Lake Forest.

Girls’ lacrosse

Caravel 17, St. Thomas More 3: Jessica Simmons netted three goals as the Ravens fell in the nonconference matchup.
