Local roundup: Stevenson shuts out host Wolverines 2-0 in men’s soccer

Stevenson netted a goal in each half before posting a 2-0 victory over Wesley College in men’s soccer at Miller Stadium on Wednesday night.

Goalie Jason Sommer made five saves for the Wolverines, who fell to 5-4-1.

The Mustangs (7-2-2) finished with advantages of 14-11 in shots and 4-2 in corner kicks. Kieran Sundermann took a team-high three shots on goal for Wesley.

WOMEN, Wesley 3, Goucher 0: Mackenzie Forsythe scored twice to pace the Wolverines.

Aleya Cummings (Caesar Rodney) also scored as Wesley netted all of its three goals in the second half.

Isabelle Fabris made four saves as the Wolverines won despite Goucher finishing with advantages of 6-4 in shots and 9-0 in corner kicks.

Iona 2, Delaware State 0: Iona scored its goals in the first 14 minutes in topping the Hornets (0-12).

Delaware State was out-shot 9-3 in the contest. Alyssa Coustenis had two shots on goal for the Hornets.

College volleyball

Wesley 3, Washington Adventist 0: The Wolverines won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-9, 25-11.

Defensively, Wesley had 41 digs with Caelli Clifford posting 14. Mary Getty had seven kills and no errors on just 11 swings.

Regan Healey finished with 10 kills and just one hitting error on 18 swings. She also contributed 10 digs.

Lindsay Burg had 26 assists.


Smyrna 3, Wilmington Friends 2: The Eagles rallied to win the final two sets and take the match by scores of 25-18, 19-25, 20-25, 25-12, 17-15.

Smyrna was paced by Sophia Basler (17 kills, 2 aces, 14 digs), Hannah Osborne (9 kills, 2 aces, 15 digs, 21 assists), Alexandra Faragher (25 digs, 2 aces) and Jennifer Sloven (9 kills, 3 blocks).

Holly Grove Christian, MD. 3, St. Thomas More 1: The Ravens dropped to 3-4 with the loss on Wednesday.

Glasgow 3, First State Military 0: The Dragons topped the Bulldogs by scores of 25-14, 25-9, 26-24.

Field hockey

St. Peter & Paul, Md. 3, Delmarva Christian 0: The Royals fell to 4-6 with the shutout loss on Wednesday.

Holly Grove Christian, Md. 10, St. Thomas More 1: The Ravens (0-8) scored their third goal of thee season in the loss.

Boys’ soccer

Conrad 4, First State Military 0: Goalie Jeffrey Cave made eight saves for the Bulldogs, who were out-shot 12-1 in the loss.
