WILMINGTON — Severe weather has once again forced changes to the DIAA state tournament schedules.

Both semifinal baseball games and the lone boys’ lacrosse contest that were scheduled for Thursday were postponed.

The first baseball game at Wilmington’s Frawley Stadium Thursday between No. 12 seed Cape Henlopen High and top-seeded Appoquinimink was able to get underway but was halted due to lightning after four batters. Rain soon followed and both games were rescheduled.

The game will resume tonight at 7 p.m., also at Frawley Stadium.

Cape Henlopen did take a 2-0 lead on Mason Fluharty’s two-run home run over Frawley Stadium’s left-centerfield fence in the first inning. Luke Johnson walked and also scored on the play.

Cape Henlopen’s Mason Fluharty is congratulated by coach Drew Johnson after he hit a two run homer against Appoquinimink in the first inning of Thursday’s state tournament semifinal game at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington.

The game was sent into a delay thanks to lightning mere seconds after Fluharty touched home plate.

It will restart with two outs in the top of the first inning tonight and Cape Henlopen still on top 2-0.

The other semifinal game will be played Saturday at 7 p.m. at Frawley Stadium. The contest pits second seed Salesianum against third-seeded Caravel.

Salesianum could not play Friday night due to graduation.

The baseball championship game is now scheduled for Sunday at 7 p.m. at Frawley Stadium.

The No. 10 Caesar Rodney vs. second seed Salesianum boys’ lacrosse game which was supposed to be played Thursday night at Caravel Academy was also postponed.

That game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night but was moved after the first semifinal was delayed for an hour and a half due to lightning. Cape Henlopen, the top seed, won that game and awaits the winner of CR-Salesianum.

No makeup date has been announced yet for the second semifinal. It is unlikely to be rescheduled for Saturday due to Caesar Rodney’s graduation and cannot be played tonight because of Salesianum’s graduation. Sunday or Monday are both options.

The semifinal will still be at Caravel but the location for the championship round is still to be determined.

Cape Henlopen has graduation on Tuesday night, meaning the finals will likely have to take place Wednesday or later.

The two soccer championship games are scheduled for Saturday at 4 p.m. at Dover High.

The Division I title matchup between top seed Wilmington Charter and third seed Padua will take place in the main stadium while the Division II bout between Caravel, the top seed, and No. 3 Tower Hill will be played concurrently at the auxiliary stadium.
