Local roundup: Sussex Central, Polytech girls, Dover boys all win

Sussex Central High overcame an early four-point deficit to down Dover, 50-40, in Henlopen Northern Division girls’ basketball on Tuesday night.

The Golden Knights out-scored the Senators, 12-5, in the fourth quarter to put away the win.
Central’s victory coupled with Cape Henlopen’s loss to Polytech leaves both the Knights and Vikings with two North losses each. Central leads the North at 8-2 with Cape just behind at 7-2.

Brenya Reid (14 points), Andriah Snipes (13) and Azayah Garrison (12) all scored in double figures for the Knights in Tuesday’s win.

Ally Manifold, who sank three three-pointers, and Tamyah Jones netted 11 points apiece for the Senators.

Polytech 53, Cape Henlopen 50: The Panthers out-scored the Vikings, 22-14, in the fourth quarter to rally for the North victory.

In snapping Cape’s seven-game North winning streak, Polytech (9-5) won for the seventh time in its last eight games.

Sussex Tech 67, Smyrna 43: The Ravens out-scored the Eagles, 58-29, after the first quarter to post the North victory.

Airelle Parker (16), Sierra Troyer (14) and Arnaisa Taylor (11) led Sussex Tech.

The Eagles were paced by Jayla Smith (15), Marqueisha Bennett (13) and Jennifer Sloven (11).

Indian River 38, Seaford 21: The Indians out-scored the Blue Jays, 25-6, in the second half to pull away to the South victory.

Yonya Wise netted a team-high 10 points for IR.

Shaniya Briddell had a game-high 11 points for Seaford.

Lake Forest 57, Laurel 37: The Spartans improved to 13-2 after their sixth-straight victory.

Woodbridge 39, Sussex Academy 21: The Blue Raiders remained undefeated with the South win.

Delmar 39, Milford 22: The Wildcats built a 31-12 lead after three quarters before picking up the South win.

Boys’ basketball

Dover 77, Sussex Central 41: The Senators improved to 16-0 and wrapped up their first Henlopen North title since 2016 with the win.

Dover out-scored the Golden Knights by a combined 47-18 in the first and third quarters.

Cape Henlopen 46, Polytech 40: Ja’Vaughn Burton tallied 18 points as the Vikings (7-7) won their third game in a row.

Brandin Obidike had a game-high 23 points for the Panthers. Both Burton and Obidike sank four three-pointers each.

Both teams had 15 field goals with five three-pointers. But Cape went 11-for-13 from the foul line while Polytech went 5-for-9.

Lake Forest 58, Laurel 27: Kaheim Kimbrough-Roach scored 22 points and Jaysem Vazquez had 20 as the Spartans improved to 11-3.

Lake Forest used an 18-5, second-quarter run to take control.

Woodbridge 62, Sussex Academy 16: Jamon Kane netted 12 points with Troy Haynes adding 11 as the Blue Raiders (9-3) won their third game in a row.

Indian River 57, Seaford 54: The Indians edged the Blue Jays in a Henlopen South matchup.
