Local roundup: Wolverines fall to Lycoming 20-6 in women’s lacrosse

Lycoming netted 14 first-half goals before downing Wesley College, 20-6, in women’s lacrosse on Thursday evening.

It was the first loss of the season for the Wolverines (4-1), who were out-shot 34-12 in the setback.

Paige Brehm netted a hat trick and added two draw controls for Wesley. Fallon Fore tallied two goals, two assists and two ground balls.

Kassie Dieter recorded five draw controls along with a goal and an assist. Goalie Maria Rowland stopped eight shots for the Wolverines.

College softball

Wesley takes sweep: Abbey Mayse pitched a one-hitter in the nightcap as Wesley College swept Penn State-Harrisburg, 5-1, 10-0 in a non-conference twinbill.

Mayse struck out one and walked only one while facing just 24 batters in the shutout. Karina Cardona (4-for-5, 3 RBI, 3 runs) and Brooke Retkowski (3-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 run) paced the Wolverines’ 16-hit attack.

In the nightcap, Jessica Anderson (Smyrna) tossed a six-hitter with seven strikeouts to pick up the win. Cardona had two hits, two RBI and a run while Megan DiRubbio (Polytech), who had an RBI and a run, and Miranda Kinney both also had two hits.

College basketball

Wesley’s Cameron earns another honor: Wesley College’s Brian Cameron landed a spot on the All-Atlantic first team
on the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III All-District teams.

This is the second all-region honor of the week for Cameron as he was selected to the All-Atlantic Region first team by D3hoops.com.

The Atlantic East Player of the Year and first-team All-Atlantic East honoree, Cameron ranks fourth in the country in scoring averaging 26.6 points per game.

College equestrian

DSU seeded No. 2 in event: Delaware State will be the No. 2 seed in the United Equestrian Conference Tournament on March 21-23 in Tennessee.

The Hornets will face No. 3 seed Fresno State in the tournament semifinals on March 22. Top seeded SMU will take on the winner of the South Dakota State/Tennessee Martin opening-round contest on March 21.

The semifinal winners will battle for the tournament championship on March 23 at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavillion in Martin, Tenn.

Delaware State split two meetings with Fresno State during the regular season.

Among the other tournament teams, the Hornets defeated Tennessee Martin 9-7 on Sept. 29, fell to SMU 8-6 on Nov. 16 and topped South Dakota State 10-9 on Mach. 2 during the season.
