Milton’s World Series dreams ends in tough loss

Milton’s dream of reaching the Little League World Series came to an end on Thursday evening.

Maryland eliminated the Delaware state champions with a 5-2 victory in the Major League baseball Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bristol, Conn.

Milton, making its second straight appearance in the tournament, finishes with a record of 1-2.

The Sussex County squad was leading 2-1 before Thurmont, Md. erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Maryland hit two homeruns in the outburst with Logan Simanski’s two-run shot to right giving Thurmont the lead for good.

Milton took its 2-1 advantage in the top of the fifth when Gage Joseph lined a single to right to score Jayseon White.

Only two Delaware teams have ever reached the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.


Canal wins opener: Canal posted a decisive 12-0 victory over Canada in its first game of the Major League World Series on Wednesday.

The Delaware state champions outhit Canada, 15-1, in the contest. The tournament is being played in Portland, Oregon.

Canal scored four runs in the first inning before adding five runs in the fourth and three in the fifth.

Brooklyn Richardson and Olivia Stubblebine combined to throw the one-hitter with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Kylie Sainni had two hits and four RBI for Canal, which was slated to play Europe-Africa on Thursday.

Dover holding fall registration: Dover Little League is having registration for its Fall Ball baseball and softball programs.

Players, ages 5-16, in Kent County, including Dover, Camden-Wyoming, Marydel-Hartly, Smyrna-Clayton and Felton-Harrington, are eligible.

Registration is being held at the Dover Little League boardroom on Aug. 16 (6-8 p.m.) and on Aug. 12 and 19 (10 a.m.-2 p.m.). A birth certificate is required and registration is $50 per player.
