Roundup: Anderson scores 24 to pace Wesley men by St. Mary’s

Evan Anderson netted 24 points to pace Wesley College to a 74-63 victory over St. Mary’s in Capital Athletic Conference men’s basketball on Sunday afternoon.

The contest was originally scheduled for Saturday but was postponed because of the snowstorm that hit the region.

Anderson, who sank 4-of-10 three-point attempts, was one of four players to score in double figures for the Wolverines (4-2 CAC, 6-7 overall). Brian Cameron (13), J.W. Lawson (12) and Jordan Johnson (11) also finished in double digits.

Rasahn Brinkley added nine points and 12 rebounds with Cameron adding 10 rebounds and five assists.

In a game that featured eight ties and two lead changes, St. Mary’s jumped out to a 14-2 lead. But Wesley took the lead for good at 47-46 on an Evan Anderson three-pointer with 14:52 remaining.

The Wolverines led by as much as 72-60 on a Brinkley dunk with 1:01 left.

WOMEN, St. Mary’s 55, Wesley 52: The Wolverines limited St. Mary’s to only five points in the final 2:15 but couldn’t get any closer than three before dropping the CAC decision.

Brionna Johnson (Smyrna) had 13 points and 15 rebounds for Wesley (1-5 CAC, 5-8) with Tiyanna Gibbs adding 13 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Alexus Stroud (Smyrna) contributed 11 points and six steals.

Elon 62, Delaware 42: The Phoenix outrebounded the Blue Henas, 62-32, in earning the Colonial Athletic Association win.

The Phoenix (11-4, 3-0 CAA) limited the Hens (7-7, 1-2 CAA) to their lowest offensive output of the season while holding Delaware to just four offensive boards.

Sophomore Nicole Enabosi recorded her sixth double-double of the season, leading the Hens with 10 points and 10 rebounds while tying a season-best with three blocked shots. Redshirt junior Sadé Chatman added 10 rebounds of her own to go along with eight points.

DSU twinbill postponed: Delaware State’s women’s and men’s basketball doubleheader at Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opponent North Carolina Central, slated for today, has been rescheduled for Tuesday at 2 and 4 p.m. due to travel conditions caused by the recent winter storm.

High school wrestling

Central wins tourney title: Sussex Central topped a field of 20 schools to win the team title at the Delcastle Invitational on Saturday.

The Golden Knights collected 246.5 points to finish ahead of second-place Salesianum (196) and third-place Polytech (159.5).

Four Henlopen Conference wrestlers also captured individual titles: Indian River’s Ta`Jon Knight (120 pounds), Central’s Rashad Stratton (126), Polytech’s Avery Mayan (160) and IR’s Zeke Marcozzi (182).
