Roundup: Brengle earns biggest win in tennis career, Hen women fall to Northeastern

Madison Brengle earned one of the biggest victories of her tennis career on Sunday afternoon.

The Dover native defeated Jamie Loeb 6-1, 6-2 in the finals of the Dow Tennis Classic in Midland, Michigan.

It was the first time the 27-year-old won a $100,000 ITF tournament. She has now won 11 ITF tournaments in her career.

Brengle only dropped eight games in the final three matches of the tournament.

“It’s the biggest tournament I’ve ever won, so I’m really happy about that,” Brengle was quoted in the Midland Daily News. “It’s a good start to the year.”

Women’s basketball

Northeastern 73, Delaware 59: The Blue Hens were unable to hold on to an early lead in Sunday afternoon’s 73-59 loss to Northeastern at the Cabot Center.

Delaware (13-8, 6-4 CAA) led by as much as six in the second quarter, but the Huskies (12-10, 7-4) combined a 54.0 shooting percentage from the field and a plus-15 rebounding margin to take sweep the regular season series.

Sophomore Bailey Kargo guided the Hens with 18 points while junior Nicole Enabosi registered 10 points and seven rebounds.

NU saw four players in double figure scoring and was led by Gabby Giacone’s double double for 13 points and 11 rebounds.
