Roundup: Caesar Rodney girls beat Wilmington Christian 50-35

The Caesar Rodney High girls’ basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 50-35 victory over Wilmington Christian School at home on Monday night in nonconference action.

The Riders held the lead 13-8 after the first quarter and 25-16 at halftime before opening up a 17-point lead in the third quarter.

The win moved Caesar Rodney to 2-3 on the season.

Delmarva Christian 66, Worcester Prep, Md. 47: Sierra Troyer’s 22 points helped the Royals remain unbeaten as they improved to 7-0 with the out-of-state victory.

Sara Walton followed with 21 points for Delmarva Christian while Kandice Schlabach added eight points.

Sussex Tech 50, Salisbury Christian, Md. 44: The Ravens earned the road win to move to 2-3 overall.

Newark Charter 44, ECHS@DSU 27: Chanyha Wise paced the Hornets with eight points in the nonconference defeat.

Jadah Forbes and Niacah Furlow each contributed six points for ECHS@DSU.

College basketball

Wolverines earn AEC honors: Wesley College’s Angelique Gathers and SherVohnia Tolson were named co-Players of the Week by the Atlantic East Conference in women’s basketball.

Gathers hit double figures in scoring in two of the Wolverines’ three contests, led by 13 points against Medgar Evers. Gathers also made that a double-double performance with 11 rebounds. For the week, she finished with 29 points, 19 rebounds, 12 assists, and six steals.

Tolson was a key defensive player, finishing with 20 rebounds, five steals and a blocked shot. She added 15 points across the three games.

Local baseball

Del. ‘Hall’ nominations sought: Nominations are being accepted for candidates to the Delaware High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame.

This Hall of Fame was founded by the Delaware High School Baseball Coaches Association to honor coaches, managers, players, teams and other individuals (umpires, league administrators, writers, groundskeepers, etc.) who have made outstanding contributions to baseball in Delaware.

Those wishing to submit a nomination may do so in writing or electronically. Nominations should include a letter of nomination, supporting accomplishments and achievements, and detail the candidate’s contribution to baseball in Delaware. Nominations are due by Jan. 31, 2020.
