Roundup: Caesar Rodney girls rally past Central 50-42 for North title

Caesar Rodney High dominated the fourth quarter to rally for a 50-42 victory over Sussex Central that wrapped up the Henlopen North girls’ basketball title for the Riders on Tuesday night.

CR (10-1 North, 18-1 overall) trailed by four before outscoring the Golden Knights (7-4 North, 13-6) by a 17-5 margin in the fourth quarter.

Alissa Haith scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Riders with Brionna Brooks adding 10.

Baleigh Lambert netted 17 points for the Golden Knights with Ambria Stratton scoring 14.

Milford 71, Laurel 40: Four players finished in double figures for the Buccaneers, who capped off the South victory by outscoring the Bulldogs, 25-8, in the fourth quarter.

The setback was the first division loss of the season for Laurel (10-1 South, 14-3 overall),

Milford, which avenged a six-point loss to the Bulldogs earlier in the season, was led by Jameshia Baker (18 points), Rajene Bowe (15), Tayeler Duffy (13), and Kiarra Brittingham (13). Baker hit four three-pointers while Brittingham added three.

Logan Handy tallied a game-high 20 points for Laurel.

Sussex Tech 49, Dover 40: The Ravens overcame a six-point halftime deficit to notch the Henlopen North win.

Jayla Mullen and Rukiya Davis netted 14 points apiece for Sussex Tech.

Brionna Hill (14) and Tajenae Henry-Coney (10) led the Senators.

Boys’ basketball

Lake Forest 62, Indian River 51: Isaiah Morris netted 26 points as Lake Forest rallied for the Henlopen South win.

The Spartans trailed by seven at halftime before outscoring the Indians, 24-4, in the third quarter.

At 11-8 overall (10-4 South), Lake Forest has surpassed last year’s win total of 10. Morris sank five of the Spartans’ six three-pointers with Cameron Lewis adding 15 points.

Kevin Custis and Jamier Felton had 12 points apiece for the Indians.

Caesar Rodney 62, Sussex Central 33: Davionne Robinson finished with 16 points to spark the Riders to the Henlopen North victory.

Kairi Buie and Shaft Clark both added 12 points for CR, which led by 25 points after three quarters.

St. Thomas More 75, Del. Public Safety & Security 39: Corey Gordon collected 22 points to pace the Ravens (15-3) to their 12th win in a row.

Eric Montanez (15 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals), Greg Bloodsworth (13 points) and Alvin West (13) also scored in double figures for St. Thomas More.

Dover 65, Sussex Tech 61: The Senators got past the Ravens for the North win.

Woodbridge 83, Seaford 39: Cornell Corbin’s 26 points led the Blue Raiders (16-2) to their sixth-straight win.

Hassan Corbin (20) and Te’Vion Waters (18) also led Woodbridge, which built a 49-19 halftime advantage.

Andrez Jones scored 12 points to pace the Blue Jays.

William Penn 44, Polytech 42: The Colonials edged the Panthers in a low-scoring nonconference contest.

Milford 66, Laurel 30: The Buccaneers picked up the Henlopen South win by downing the Bulldogs.

Delmar 67, Sussex Academy 38: The Wildcats opened up a 38-16 halftime lead en route to the South victory.

College lacrosse

UD’s Gohsler earns CAA honor: Junior Becky Gohsler earned her first CAA Player of the Week honor in women’s lacrosse.

Gohsler exploded for a career-best six goals as Delaware defeated Georgetown, 10-9, in the season opener for both squads on Saturday.

Her goal and point totals doubled her previous career-best while she became the first Blue Hen to record at least six goals in the season opener since 1988. The midfielder also tied a career-high with three ground balls.
