Roundup: Camden-Wyoming falls to Massachusetts in Junior League baseball Eastern Regional

Camden-Wyoming was limited to just a pair of hits in falling to Massachusetts, 3-1, in the Junior League baseball Eastern Regional on Saturday evening.

The loss drops the Delaware state champions to 1-1 in the double-elimination, 10-team tournament being played in Freehold, N.J.

Camden-Wyoming is slated to play again today at 10 a.m. against New York (1-1). CW would now have to win four straight games to reach the East finals on Tuesday.

After scoring 17 runs in a tourney-opening win over Pennsylvania on Thursday, Camden-Wyoming managed just one run in the sixth inning on Saturday. Jaxson Monroney drove in Eric Stewart with CW’s lone run with Hunter Chambers adding the other hit.

Massachusetts’ two pitchers walked only two while striking out six in the win.

Pitcher Graham Buckson gave up only four hits in pitching all six innings for Camden-Wyoming. He walked only one and struck out four without surrendering an earned run.

Camden-Wyoming committed three errors in the game.

Hens’ Walker signed by Bears: Former Delaware football player Joe Walker has been signed again as a receiver by the Chicago Bears.

Walker was a three-year starting quarterback for the Blue Hens before finishing his career as a receiver last fall. He was also signed by the Bears in April before being released.
