Roundup: Dover field hockey team extends winning streak to six

Four different players scored goals as Dover High won its sixth straight game with a 4-1 victory over St. Georges in field hockey on Wednesday afternoon.

The Senators (8-4) tallied two goals in each half, outshooting the Hawks, 14-9. St. Georges held a 9-4 edge in corners.

Ally Manifold, Jacarra Jackson, Joy Adkins and Mira Prisco all scored goals for Dover. Adkins’ goal was her 19th of the season.

Goalie Madison Francois made eight saves for the Senators.

On Tuesday, Dover edged Woodbridge, 2-1, in overtime on a goal from Adkins.

Sydni Warman also scored for the Senators who held advantages in both shots (16-1) and penalty corners (12-1).


Lake Forest 3, Glasgow 0: The Spartans earned the non-conference victory on Wednesday.

Delmarva Christian 3, Holly Grove Christian, Md. 0: The Royals won the match by scores of 25-15, 25-20, 25-17.

Leading Delmarva Christian were Gabrielle Book (13 kills, 1 ace), Michaela Brown (6 kills) and Olivia Berger (1 kill, 1 ace, 28 assists).

Sussex Academy 3. Woodbridge 0: The Seahawks picked up the Henlopen South victory by scores of 25-5, 25-13, 25-15.

Bailey Hesson (10 kills, 4 aces), Searra Pollitt (8 kills, 5 aces, 6 digs, 11 assists) and Lauren Sneller (6 aces, 10 digs) led Sussex Academy. Courtney Sneller also registered her 100th dig.

Sussex Tech 3, Sussex Academy 1: The Ravens won the final two sets to win the match, 25-11, 23-25, 25-19, 25-12 on Tuesday.

Brooke Ward (8 kills, 3 aces, 12 digs), Megan Perdue (7 kills, 2 aces, 12 digs) and Emily Gundry (3 kills, 2 aces, 10 digs, 23 assists) led Sussex Tech.

The Seahawks were paced by Bailey Hesson (11 kills, 2 aces, 13 digs), Searra Pollitt (6 kills, 2 aces, 8 assists) and Courtney Sneller (19 digs).

Dover 3, Woodbridge 0: The Senators earned the victory in a match played on Tuesday.

Woodbridge 4, St. Thomas More 0: The Raiders netted a pair of goals in each half in registering the win on Tuesday.

WOMEN, York 5, Wesley 1: Goalie Sam Brannigan made 14 saves for the Wolverines (4-9-1) in the Senior Night loss.

Janiah Moore (Caesar Rodney) scored her sixth goal of the season, moving into a tie for eighth on Wesley’s all-time goal scoring list and moving into the program’s top 10 in career points.

Wesley honored seniors Brannigan, Kristen Griffith, Natalie Trujillo, Summer Stone, and Brooke Thompson in a halftime ceremony. The seniors combined for 23 victories including six conference wins and an ECAC Tournament appearance in 2014.

MEN, York 4, Wesley 0: The Wolverines were blanked by the Spartans in a Capital Athletic Conference game.

Goalie Tanner Yaw made five saves for Wesley.

Del. Hall of Fame

Nomination meetings slated: The first of two Delaware Sports Hall of Fame public nomination meetings will be Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. at the State Police Troop 2 headquarters in Glasgow.

The second nomination meeting will be Nov. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Marvel Carriage Museum in Georgetown.

Benefit tourney Saturday: A golf tournament to benefit the Central Middle School girls’ basketball program will be held on Saturday at Dover Par 3. Registration is $25 and begins at 8:30 a.m.
