Roundup: Moore’s hat-trick carries Delmar by Lake 4-0 in D-2 hockey semis

Jordan Moore’s hat-trick paced Delmar High to a 4-0 victory over Lake Forest High in the Division II DIAA state tournament field hockey semifinals on Wednesday night.

Peyton Kemp provided the other goal for the Wildcats.

The No. 1 Wildcats will face second seed Tower Hill for the title on Saturday at noon. The game will be played at Rullo Stadium on the campus of the University of Delaware in Newark.

Delmar is looking for its second consecutive championship and an undefeated season will be on the line.

Boys’ soccer

Salesianum 8, Cape Henlopen 1: Zack Gelof scored the lone goal for the Vikings who fell to the top-seeded Sals in the semifinals.

Men’s basketball

IPFW 85. Delaware State 71: Fort Wayne knocked down 17 three-point field goals asthe Hornets have dropped two in a row to fall to 1-2.

Kason Harrell led Fort Wayne with 20 points, highlighted by six three-pointers (6-11). John Kochar added 18 points, including four three-pointers (4-7), and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Delaware State sophomore guard Kobe Gantz led all players with a career-best 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field, two three-pointers (2-4), and five free throws on six attempts. Gantz also led the Hornets with seven rebounds and a career-high seven steals. Gantz scored 44 points and pulled down 17 rebounds in the last two games.

Freshman guard Pinky Wiley added 17 points, while Jonathan Mitchell contributed 16, each a career-high, for the Hornets.

Stockton 87, Wesley 82: The Wolverines fell in overtime in their season opening contest.

Evan Anderson forced overtime when he made a jump shot with 23 seconds to go in regulation to tie the game at 75.

Stockton outscored Wesley 12-7 in the overtime session to take the victory.

JW Lawson led the Wolverines with 25 points and 10 rebounds to notch a double-double. Brian Cameron racked up 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Evan Anderson scored 14 points. Paul Clemons tallied 10 points and seven rebounds.

College volleyball

UD has one on All-CAA team: University of Delaware sophomore outside hitter Maria Bellinger was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association Volleyball Third Team as the league announced its all-conference selections Wednesday.

Bellinger started all 26 matches for Delaware this season, and was the only Blue Hen to appear in all 96 sets. She led the team with 360 kills (3.75 per set) and 18 service aces, was second on the squad with 233 digs, and tied for fourth with 36 blocks.

Bellinger’s 3.75 kills average was good for third in the conference, while she ranked fourth by averaging 4.16 points per set.

College baseball

Delaware inks four: University of Delaware head coach Jim Sherman announced the addition of four student-athletes to the baseball roster for the 2018-19 campaign.

The Blue Hens signed Joseph Carpenter, Jack Dubecq, Danny Nunan and Joey Silan to National Letters of Intent that will bring the future Hens to campus next summer.
