Hens’ Daly named CAA’s top rookie: Delaware freshman guard Ryan Daly was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Year on Thursday night.

Daly leads the Blue Hens with 15.3 points and 7.2 rebounds per game while hitting a team-best 55 three-pointers. He ranks fifth in the CAA in rebounding and eighth in scoring, both the highest averages by league freshmen.

He was named the CAA Rookie of the Week six times this season. The leading freshman scorer and rebounder in school history, Daly has reached double figures in 21 of the last 23 games.

His nine 20-point games are the most by a freshman in UD history, and he has led the Hens in scoring during 16 of the last 20 contests.

Daly becomes the fourth player in Blue Hen history to earn conference Rookie of the Year honors, joining Anthony Wright (ECC in 1989-90), Brian Pearl (NAC in 1991-92) and Devon Saddler (CAA in 2010-11). Daly was also named third team all-CAA.

“It feels good to be named the CAA Rookie of the Year, I didn’t really expect it coming into the season,” Daly said.

“This is a great day for Delaware basketball to have the Rookie of the Year in the CAA,” said first-year Delaware coach Martin Ingelsby. “Ryan is very deserving of this honor, and we are extremely proud of what he has accomplished this season.”
