Roundup: No. 9 Smyrna falls to No. 8 Auks in volleyball tournament

Ninth-seeded Smyrna High took the opening set before dropping a 3-1 decision to No. 8 Archmere in the second round of the DIAA volleyball state tournament on Satuarday night.

The Auks (11-5) won by scores of 24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 25-20.

The three-time Henlopen Conference champion Eagles finish the season at 11-6.

Red Lion Christian 3, Indian River 0: The 10th-seeded Lions downed the No. 7 Indians by scores of 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 in the second round of fthe state tournament on Saturday.

IR, which won the Henlopen Southern Dvision title, finishes the season at 14-3.

College volleyball

James Madison 3, Delaware 0: The Dukes captured the contest by set scores of 25-23, 25-14, 25-14 to improve to 18-4 overall and 9-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Blue Hens fell to 5-19 overall and 3-11 in league action.

Maria Bellinger led Delaware with team-highs of seven kills and eight digs, while Abby Skryd also posted eight digs to go with 14 assists. Courtnie Roberts tied her career-high for the second straight match with six kills, while adding 12 assists on the night.

Delaware closes its home season today vs. Charleston at 1 p.m. on Senior Day for Raven Luckett (Smyrna) and Daria Robinson.
