Roundup: Panthers blank Ravens 4-0 in boys’ soccer

Iosif Drane’s hat trick paced a four-goal second half for Polytech High as the Panthers downed Sussex Tech 4-0 in a Henlopen Conference Northern Division soccer match on Thursday.

Sussex Tech was previously undefeated against Henlopen North opposition. The Panthers improved to 10-1 overall.

Marco Maddalena provided the other goal for Polytech while goalie Griffin Ott made eight saves to preserve the shutout.

Caesar Rodney 4, Dover 2: The Riders scored a pair of goals in each half to defeat their local rivals.

Ricardo Hernandez and Caleb Hellmann had goals in the first half while Chris McPoyle and Joshua Bennett tallied goals in the second.

Dover’s goals were by Chris Valenti and Jeff Orelien.

Lake Forest 2, Delmar 2: The Spartans scored two goals in the second half to rally from an early deficit to earn the draw.

Eric Berardicelli had a goal on a penalty kick while William Parker also scored for Lake Forest.

Sussex Central 2, Smyrna 0: Davenson Dupervil had a goal in each half to lead the Golden Knights to the Henlopen North win.

Cape Henlopen 9, St. Thomas More 0: Drew Mulcahy and Steven Matalavage each scored a pair of goals for the Vikings in the nonconference victory.

Cape also got goals from Jack Ashby, Ambrose Hochrein, Richard Carey, Samuel Evans and Jason Garcia.

Woodbridge 1, Milford 0: Wilian Santizo’s first half goal held up as the Blue Raiders shut out Milford despite being outshot 9-7.

Indian River 7, Laurel 1: McClain Smith netted the first three goals of the game in Indian River’s Henlopen South win.

Mikie Mochiam, Oscar Cruz, Kevin Parrazel and Juan Linares each added a goal in the second half for the Indians.

Sussex Academy 4, Seaford 3: The Seahawks picked up a victory in overtime on Thursday.

Field hockey

Polytech 4, Dover 1: Camyrn Dennis netted three goals to lift the Panthers in the Henlopen North contest.

Jamie Trabaudo added a goal for Polytech. Kristen Atkins scored Dover’s lone goal.

Cape Henlopen 8, Sussex Central 0: Tess Bernheimer’s four goals led the Vikings to the shutout.

Delmar 7, Indian River 0: Paige Twilley-Webster and Nancy Harris both scored two goals for Delmar while Ashley Arter, Ashlyn Carr and Peyton Kemp netted a goal apiece.


Caesar Rodney 3, Dover 0: Sara Cessna’s nine kills led the Riders to the Henlopen North win in straight sets.

Set scores were 25-23, 25-23 and 25-15.

Smyrna 3, Sussex Central 0: The Eagles remained undefeated against Henlopen Conference teams with a 25-7, 25-7, 25-12 victory.

Polytech 3, Sussex Tech 0: Kaylee Williams had 12 kills and Emilly Campbell 10 as the Panthers won in straight sets 25-16, 25-14 and 25-19.

Cape Henlopen 3, St. Thomas More 1: The Ravens battled back to take the third set but the Vikings earned the victory 25-16, 26-24, 12-25, 25-22.

Delmar 3, Lake Forest 0: The Wildcats swept Lake 26-24, 25-10 and 25-10.

Milford 3, Woodbridge 0: The Buccaneers won 25-20, 25-15 and 25-20 in the Henlopen South contest.

College tennis

Blue Hens knocked out of regional: The fall season came to a conclusion Thursday afternoon for the University of Delaware women’s tennis team as the Blue Hens fell on the first day of the Women’s ITA Atlantic Regional, hosted by Liberty University.

Delaware had just two student-athletes selected to participate in the Regional, with freshman Sara Komer and sophomore Arielle Shuren earning a spot in the doubles bracket.

In Thursday’s Round of 64, the duo were defeated by Penn State’s Katia Blik and Devan McCluskey, 8-0.

With the loss, the pair finishes the fall slate with a 5-2 record in doubles play.
