Roundup: Polytech serves up win over Delmar in volleyball

The Polytech High volleyball team defeated Delmar High 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon, set scores were 25-11, 25-19 and 25-20.

Paige Orth led the Panthers with four kills. Kimberly Seeney recorded 15 assists for Polytech.

It was the first game of the season for the Panthers.

Milford 3, Woodbridge 0: Charlee McDowell netted six kills to pace the Buccaneers to their first victory of the year.

Set scores were 25-17, 25-8 and 25-15. Milford improved its record to 1-1.

Delmarva Christian 3, Sussex Academy 0: Mia Berger’s eight kills led the Royals to a 25-11, 25-13, 25-11 result.

Ashlyn Stonebraker added 19 assists as Delmarva Christian pushed its record to 2-0.

Sussex Tech 3, Seaford 0: Alexandra Johnson, Megan Sterling and Sarah Perdue had three kills apiece in the Raven win.

Sussex Tech moved to 1-2 on the season with the straight-set (25-10, 25-9, 25-11) victory.

Smyrna 3, Lake Forest 0: The Eagles earned the win in straight sets 25-7, 25-8, 25-9.

Caesar Rodney 3, Concord 0: The Riders won the nonconference matchup 25-18, 25-19, 25-11.

Indian River 3, Cape Henlopen 0: The Indians took the contest 25-19, 25-22, 25-20.

Field hockey

Smyrna 8, Appoquinimink 1: Jessica Bergold’s hat-trick paced the Eagles to a nonconference victory.

Madison Simpson added a pair of goals for Smyrna. Alexis Moore, Payton Dixon and Ryla Wilber also scored for the Eagles.

Cape Henlopen 6, Woodbridge 0: Abigail Kane and Reagan Ciabattoni each scored twice as the Vikings won their second-straight.

Indian River 7, Caesar Rodney 0: Avery Congleton’s three goals and two more by Brynn McCabe lifted the Indians to the victory.

Delmar 11, Sussex Tech 0: Maci Bradford’s four goals led the way for the Wildcats as Logan Walls and Josie Hollamon each netted a pair of goals.

Sussex Central 4, Laurel 0: McKenna Boyle, Carly Collins, Maille Ryan and Saige Bullock provided the goals as the Golden Knights earned the win in their season opener.

Boys’ soccer

Lake Forest 1, Smyrna 0: Riley Sapp scored on a penalty kick in the first half and Jackson Massey made 14 saves to earn the shutout for the Spartans.

Delmar 2, Dover 1: T.J. Gibson and Guillermo Konowaluk each recorded a goal in the second half to help the Wildcats rally for the win.

Sussex Tech 1, Sussex Academy 0: Shaun Chilton’s first half goal proved to be the difference for the Ravens.

Sussex Central 3, Laurel 0: Johnny Garcia, Isaac Flores and Alexis Lemus-Perez each netted one goal as the Golden Knights earned the victory in their first game.

Polytech 3, Woodbridge 2: The Panthers trailed 2-1 at halftime before responding with two goals in the second half.

College volleyball

Wesley 3, Bryn Mawr 0: The Wolverines earned their third consecutive win with a 25-6, 25-12, 25-10 result.

Wesley compiled a .358 hitting percentage, putting down 38 kills on 81 attempts with just 9 hitting errors. They also earned 17 aces from the service line, while defensively they notched 40 digs.

Regan Healey led the attack with nine kills, Mary Getty and Emily Waldridge had eight kills a piece, Mackenzie Bender contributed five, while Micah Wright and Erin Lewis added three. Lindsay Burg fueled the offense with 22 assists, adding a kill, five digs and two aces. Caelli Clifford led the defense with 10 digs, as well as serving up seven aces.
