Roundup: Smyrna-Clayton Red captures 8-9 District I title

The Smyrna-Clayton Red team captured the 8-9-year-old District I title on Monday night with a 13-9 victory over Felton-Harrington.

Ryann Durnall, Kendall Wiley and Brianna Kalb all went 4-for-4 to pace the Smyrna-Clayton Little Lass offense.

Deak Deakins tournament

M.O.T. White 18, Felton-Harrington White 17: Eddie Stranahn had three RBI including the game-winning hit in the seventh inning to lift M.O.T. White on Monday.

Landon Washington hit for the cycle and drove in two runs while Paul Burris had a double and four RBI for M.O.T. White. It also received contributions from Logan Czerwinski and Brian Huang who had three hits each.

Landon Jefferson went 4-for-5 with three RBI for Felton-Harrington White.

Camden-Wyoming Blue 17, M.O.T Blue 6: Every Camden-Wyoming Blue player scored in the win on Monday.

Darius Jack went 3-for-3 for a triple with three runs scored while Tyler Parenteau doubled and drove in four runs.

For M.O.T. Blue Austin Griffin and Garrett Oberby were 2-for-2 with a double apiece and J.R. Montgomery was 3-for-3.

Felton-Harrington White 21, Smyrna-Clayton Red 11: William Nole was 4-for-4 with a home run and six RBI while Luke Hamlin went 4-for-4 with a home run and knocked in a pair in a game contested on Sunday.

Landon Jefferson and Asher Grubb also went 4-for-4 with a pair of RBI. Jefferson also provided a triple.

Ryan Perkins led the Smyrna-Clayton Red offense with two doubles in two at-bats and one RBI.

M.O.T. White 15, Smyrna-Clayton White 3: Marco Amatuzio and Jasom Timpson each drove in a pair of runs in M.O.T. White’s win on Sunday.

Landon Washington was 3-for-3 and Eddie Stranahan tripled for M.O.T. White. Jayden Butches led Smyrna-Clayton White with two RBI and a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.

Pat Knight tournament

Smyrna-Clayton 5, Milford 1: Zach Lewis had two hits and one RBI to help Smyrna-Clayton stay alive in an elimination game on Monday.

Jacob Macey struck out three to record the win.

Walt Bowers tournament

Felton-Harrington 11, Smyrna-Clayton 1: J.D. Mudri tossed a complete-game three-hitter on Sunday with four strikeouts.

Drake Robbins tripled and had two RBI while Logan Mayle provided a RBI-double. Kai Riveria went 2-for-2.

For Smyrna-Clayton, Owen Ashley finished 1-for-2.

American Legion

Fox Post sweeps doubleheader: Fox Post 2 defeated the Post 10 Generals twice over the weekend, 16-0 in the opener and 13-3 in the second game.

Miguel Rivera threw a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in game one. Rivera also went 4-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Jordan Hutchins had three hits with four RBI, Quentin Ivy doubled with three RBI, Kendall Small also doubled with three RBI, Jake Williams was 2-for-2 with a RBI and Andrew Mace had three RBI and a double.

In game two, Williams threw four innings to record the win. Ivy doubled twice and knocked in four runs while A.J. Johnson finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.

High school athletics

Bastianelli hired at Sussex Academy: Sussex Academy has hired Steve Bastianelli to be its athletic director beginning July 1.

Bastianelli, currently an athletic director for Newark High School, has 23 years coaching experience for St Mark’s High School wrestling team, where he was named Delaware Coach of the Year three times.  He also worked as the Sussex Central athletic director, was inducted into the Delaware Wrestling Hall of Fame and the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame.

“Mr. Bastianelli is highly regarded in both Delaware athletics and the educational community He brings experience and knowledge to our athletic program as the program continues to grow,” stated Dr. Patricia Oliphant, Director of Curriculum and Instruction.  “We are excited to have him on our staff.”
