Roundup: Spartans blank Bucs 6-0 in girls soccer

Hannah Fox and Lauren Sharp netted two goals apiece to pace Lake Forest High to a 6-0 victory over Milford in Henlopen South girls’ soccer on Thursday afternoon.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for the Spartans (2-0 South, 4-3 overall).

Alexa McCracken (1 assist) and Racheal Harrell added Lake’s other goals.

Milford dropped to 1-2 in the South, 3-5 overall.

Wilmington Charter 3, Caesar Rodney 1: Sheyenne Allen netted a pair of second-half goals to lift the Force past the Riders.

CR (6-2) tied the game on a goal from Jessie Prillaman in the 30th minute.

Goalie Morgan Desaulniers made nine saves for the Riders, who were outshot 15-5. CR held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Smyrna 2, Polytech 0: Marissa McClenton scored a pair of first-half goals, five minutes apart, as the Eagles (1-6) won their first game of the season.

Cassidy Cook made 10 saves to earn the shutout.

Sussex Tech 2, Cape Henlopen 1: Kira Short’s overtime goal gave the Ravens the Henlopen North victory.

Aliyah Browning scored Sussex Tech’s first goal with Valencia Whealton making seven saves. The Ravens outshot Cape, 10-8.

Brooke Hollingsworth scored in the first half for the Vikings while Lucy Siranides made seven saves.

Indian River 7, Seaford 0: Madison Hogsten and Avery Congleton had two goals and an assist each in the Indians’ Henlopen South win.

Samantha Whelen, Olivia Garvey and Skyler McClure also scored for IR, which held advantages of 23-0 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks.

Seaford goalie Jaqueline Diaz-Cabada made 15 saves.

Woodbridge 3, Sussex Academy 2: The Raiders earned the Henlopen South win in overtime.

Brooke Joseph and Janae Craft tallied goals in the second half for Woodbridge, which outshot the Seahawks 14-3.

Goals from Delaney Smith and Savannah Sistrunk tied the game for Sussex Academy. Kierstin Blatzheim made 12 saves.

Delmar 5, Laurel 0: Ashlyn Carr and Logan Walls both scored twice with Kayla Hovatter adding the other goal in the Wildcats’ South win.

Softball

Milford 11, Polytech 1: Mo Abbott pitched a four-hitter for the Buccaneers, who led 7-0 after the second inning.

Macey Mears hit a two-run homer for Milford while Rejene Bowe and Darby Brennan (2 doubles) added two hits apiece. C.J. Kohel had an RBI triple.

Hayley DiCarlantino had two hits for Polytech.

Middletown 11, Caesar Rodney 6: The Cavaliers overcame an early 4-0 deficit to down the Riders in the nonconference contest.

Sophia Badell homered for CR while Alexxys Harris scored twice.

Caesar Rodney 6, Cape Henlopen 1: The Riders scored three runs in both the fourth and sixth innings to pick up the Henlopen Conference victory on Wednesday.

Winning pitcher Alyssa Ball threw a two-hitter while Alexxys Harris, Sophia Badell, Jada Courtney and Lauren Scott each had hits and RBI for CR.

Raegan Jackson had a first-inning homer for Cape.

Smyrna 24, Seaford 0: The Eagles’ Jessica Anderson and Olyvia Smith combined to pitch a five-inning no-hitter with 11 strikeouts.

Kaelyn Press four of Smyrna’s 22 hits with Sara Miller, Kayla Wilson, Lexi Moore and Smith also contributing multiple hits. Press and Miller both homered.

Delmarva Christian 2, Salisbury Christian 1: Jordyn DiFava scored the winning run on a throwing error in the 11th for the Royals.

Malaurie Noble singled home Ashlyn Stonebraker with Delmarva Christian’s first run while Camryn Thompson threw a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

Sussex Tech 15, Laurel 1: The Ravens scored nine runs in the fifth inning to cap off the conference win on Wednesday.

Deshown Sample and Anthony Hitchcock had two hits each for Sussex Tech.

Delmarva Christian 5, Salisbury Christian 3: Trent Mills’ two-run triple sparked a four-run first inning for the Royals.

Brandon Schlabach pitched a complete game with five strikeouts to earn the win while Matt Murphy had two hits.

College baseball

Susquehanna 17, Wesley 10: Despite collecting 19 hits, the Wolverines (16-12) dropped the nonconference decision.

Trey Mears (Sussex Central), Mike Calvarese, Edward Hogan and Aaron Briggs (Caesar Rodney) each recorded three hits. Mears drove in three runs and scored three times including a two-run home run in the second inning.

Will Barton, Cody Dmiterchik (Cape Henlopen) and William Foster each tallied two hits while Foster brought home three runs.
