Roundup: Williams hurls 1-hitter as Fox Post 2 wins

Jake Williams pitched a one-hit shutout as Fox Post-2 defeated Post-3 Milford 10-0 in five innings in an American Legion baseball matchup on Thursday night.

Gabe Rivera was 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI to lead Fox Post who improved to 13-3. Jeff Gary also had a pair of RBI.

Garrett Lawson had two hits while Carter Chasanov doubled.

Milford’s one hit came from Andrew Greenly, who had a double.

Post-25 Middletown 3, Stahl Post-20 2: In a game played on Wednesday night, Smyrna High pitcher John Barley pitched a complete game with six strikeouts to help Middletown Post-25 to the one-run victory in a contest featuring the top two teams in the American Legion standings.

Middletown Post-25 improved to 16-4 while Stahl Post-30 is now 15-4.

High school basketball

Former Hen Carra hired at Cape: Lauren Carra, a starting guard on the University of Delaware’s 2013 Sweet 16 women’s team, has been named the new girls’ basketball coach at Cape Henlopen High.

Carra succeeds veteran coach Lamont Hazzard, who led the Vikings to a 10-10 record last winter.

Also hired as a special education teacher at Cape, Carra has coached AAU teams as well as working as a radio broadcaster for Blue Hen games last season.

Local softball

Wesley holding camp: Wesley College will host an Elite Softball Camp for ages 13 and up on Aug. 10-12.

Instructors will include head coach Juli Greep, assistant coaches Brooke Donovan and Ashlyn Booth-Hare, along with current and former Wolverine softball players. The camp will last from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day.
