FELTON — Smyrna High’s Tosin Ibironke won the boys’ individual title with the Eagles’ Naomi Bowser taking second in the girls’ race at the Lake Forest Invitational cross country meet on Saturday morning.

The 18-team event was held at Killens Pond State Park. Only one race was held in each of the two varsity divisions because of the extreme heat.

Sidwell Friends won the boys’ team championship with 78 points followed by Delaware Military (94), third-place Sussex Tech (112) and fourth-place Caesar Rodney (121).

Ibironke posted a winning time of 16:58.15, about 27 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Alex Horgan of St. Andrews (17:25.58). Other downstate runners to finish in the boys’ top 10 were Polytech’s Bryan Perry (3rd, 17:37.75), Sussex Tech’s Ben Bamforth (5th, 17:46.27), Lake Forest’s Drew Harris (7th, 17:51.79), Sussex Tech’s Jairus Hinds (7th, 17:51.79) and Sussex Central’s Albert Norman (9th, 17:57.26).

Maryvale Prep, with three runners in the top six, won the girls’ team title with 40 points to out-distance second-place Sidwell Friends with 100. Sixth-place Smyrna (175) was the top-finishing Henlopen Conference squad.

Individually, the Eagles’ Bowser (20:22.13) placed second only to girls’ winner Emily Craig of Maryvale (20:01.73). The only other downstate top-10 runner in the girls’ race was Cape Henlopen’s Olivia Brozefsky (21:37.93), who took seventh.
