Smyrna’s McFolling-Young, Lake’s Morris shine at Meet of Champions

DOVER — A pair of Kent County athletes followed up state championships with first place finishes at the DIAA Meet of Champions on Wednesday night at Dover High.

Highlighting the downstate performers was Smyrna High’s Myrissa McFolling-Young, who swept both girls’ throwing events.

McFolling-Young, a junior, first took gold in the shot put with a toss of 38-feet-11.5-inches. She followed that up by winning the discus thanks to a throw of 138-feet-11-inches.

McFolling-Young was two days removed from winning the Division I discus event at the DIAA state championship meet at this same Dover High field on Monday.

Lake Forest’s Isaiah Morris accomplished a similar feat.

The only other individual champion on Wednesday from the Henlopen Conference was Sussex Central’s Naiya Smith in the 400-meter dash. Smith bested the eight-runner field with a time of 56.35.

Kent County was represented in the relays with a gold medal to the Caesar Rodney girls’ 4×100-meter relay team.

The team of sophomore Patrisha Davis, junior Yeila Correa, junior Cailyn Carter and freshman Destiny Bailey-Perkins topped all teams with a time of 48.39.
