Local roundup: State tournament slate set – baseball, soccer on tap Friday

DOVER — The schedules for this weekend’s DIAA state tournaments have been established.

Because of conflicts with graduations, the boys’ lacrosse state finals between Caesar Rodney and Salesianum will now be played on Monday at Caravel Academy at 7 p.m.

In girls’ soccer, the state championship games will be played as a doubleheader today at Caravel. The Division II title game between Tower Hill and Delaware Military will start at 6 p.m. with the Division I matchup between Caesar Rodney and Padua slated for 8 p.m.

The baseball semifinals are also scheduled for today at Wilmington’s Frawley Stadium. Dover will face Cape Henlopen at 4 p.m. with St. Mark’s taking on Caravel at 7 p.m.

The baseball finals are scheduled for Sunday at Frawley at a time TBA.

Cape Henlopen 6, Appoquinimink 5: Zach Dale drove home Timmy Vitella with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the fourth-seeded Vikings the quarterfinal win on Wednesday.

Mason Fluharty (3-for-4) and Zack Gelof (2-for-3) paced Cape’s 10-hit attack while Jackson Ostroski started the eighth with a pinch-hit single. Reliever Austin Elliott struck out six in 2 2/3 innings while earning the victory.
