UD women’s basketball team beats Hofstra

Delaware held Hofstra to a combined 11 points in the second and third quarters en route to a 61-41 victory over Hofstra in CAA women’s basketball on Sunday afternoon.

The Blue Hens (8-4 CAA, 15-8 overall) trailed by five after the first quarter, but rallied for a 30-7 run over the next 15 minutes and never looked back.

Junior Nicole Enabosi finished with 17 points and 19 rebounds to go along with five steals. She now has 17 double-doubles this season and 38 for her three-year career.

Sophomore Samone DeFreese collected her fifth career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 9-of-12 from the field.

Delaware is 33-1 all-time against Hofstra in Newark and holds the overall series advantage at 59-12.

Men’s lacrosse

Delaware 16, Mt. St. Mary’s 12: The Blue Hens gave new coach Ben DeLuca a victory in his debut as Delaware’s coach on Saturday.

Will Hirschmann set career-highs in goals (4) and points (7) to lead a potent offense attack for Delaware. Freshman Peter St. Geme notched a hat trick in his collegiate debut while sophomore Charlie Kitchen had two goals and two assists for four points on the day.

Mount made it a one-goal game at 12-11 in the fourth quarter, but back-to-back goals from Kitchen and Hirschmann sealed the Hens’ win.
