Week 12 Pigskin Picks

Only once has there been DIAA football state championship games featuring four Henlopen Conference teams in the same year.

That was in 2008. With a Henlopen squad in each of this weekend’s four state semifinals, there’s a chance it could happen again.

But it won’t be easy. Here’s our predictions for this weekend’s big high school and local college games:

The Blue Raiders are trying to reach the state finals for the third time in the last four years.

3-Smyrna (9-2) at 2-Middletown (8-2), 7:30 p.m.
Smyrna has struggled vs. the Cavs in the regular season but is 2-0 against them in tourney.

Howard face a long trip from Wilmington but should pose a challenge for the Wildcats.

Division I semifinals
4-Sussex Central (9-2) at 1-Hodgson (10-1), noon
Defending champion Golden Knights return to the site of their only loss a season ago.

Framingham State (8-2) at Wesley (9-1), noon
Now that it’s back in the DIII playoffs, Wesley wants to stay for more than just one game.

Delaware (3-4 CAA, 5-6) at Villanova (4-3 CAA, 8-3), 1 p.m.
Snapping their seven-game losing streak against Nova would make the Hens’ season.

St. Francis, Pa. (5-6) at Delaware State (2-9), 2 p.m.
The Hornets can match their win total for last season by picking up a third victory today.
