Wesley field hockey team falls to visiting Washington 4-1

DOVER — The Wesley College field hockey team was upended by Washington College, 4-1 on Thursday night at Miller Stadium.

Brittany Bishop (Middletown) spoiled the Shorewomen’s shutout when she put a goal past Washington goalie Morgan Domanico with just 14 seconds remaining in the game.

Rebecca Dvorak tallied Wesley’s other shot on goal late in the first half. Emily Wagner (Appoquinimink) and Alexis Howerin (Caesar Rodney) each recorded a defensive save for the Wolverines (0-3).

Wesley goalie Sidney Knott made three saves while Lauren Berry (Middletown) also registered a save.

Nicole Schroyer led Washington (1-2) with a goal and an assist.

DSU trip cancelled: The Delaware State women’s soccer team’s weekend trip to South Carolina has been cancelled due to Hurricane Irma, which forecasters say could cause major damage along the U.S. southeast coast.

The Hornets were scheduled to play today at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C., and on Sunday at Charleston Southern.

The matches are not expected to be rescheduled, although DSU coach Kortney Rhoades she will attempt to find other opponents to make up for the lost contests.

Delaware State’s next scheduled match is Sept. 14 against George Washington at the DE Turf Sports Complex in Frederica. The contest is set for 7 p.m.
