Wesley’s Callahan may start Packers’ preseason game

When the Green Bay Packers suit up to face the Indianapolis Colts for the NFL Hall of Fame Game on Sunday night, it won’t be Aaron Rodgers taking the first snap for the Green and Gold.

It very well could be Wesley College’s own Joe Callahan.

According to ESPN Staff Writer Jason Wilde, Green Bay oach Mike McCarthy has not named Callahan the starter for the season’s inaugural preseason game, but Thursday’s practice indicated he is the likely starter.

“If Rodgers sits out and Hundley can’t go, Callahan would probably start, because he has worked as the No. 3 quarterback since signing with the Packers after the draft,” Wilde reported

Callahan was signed as an undrafted free agent, and entered camp with the Packers contending for a roster spot.

The former Wolverine was third on the depth chart entering this week. A minor injury to backup Brett Hundley on Monday opened the door for Callahan.

On a night when former Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre will have his legendary career honored by entering the Hall of Fame, Callahan will begin his own NFL journey. Callahan grew up a fan of Favre.

The 8 p.m. game will be televised by ESPN.
