‘Outside the Oval’ now available to Dover race fans

DOVER — Dale Earnhardt Jr., who will be racing at Dover International Speedway for the last time on Oct. 1, is featured on the cover of the Outside the Oval.

The Delaware State News publishes the booklet twice a year as a guide for race fans.

Earnhardt, 42, is retiring at the end of the season.

His most memorable moment in Dover came in the fall of 2001 at NASCAR’s first race after the terrorist events of Sept. 11, 2001.

After winning the race, he took a victory lap with a giant American flag in front of 140,000 fans.

“No one who witnessed that moment, coming less than a year after the death of father, will ever forget it,” said Denis McGlynn, president and CEO of Dover Motorsports Inc.

This feature and more are included in the fall edition of “Outside the Oval.”
